Spanish American War exhibit

Spanish American War (25 April 1898 – 12 August 1898)
. The war was fought in Cuba, Puerto Rico, Philippines and Guam. The result was Spain relinquished sovereignty over Cuba, and ceded Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippine Islands to the United States for $20 million. The war began exactly fifty-two years after the Mexican-American War began. It was one of only eleven U.S. wars to have been formally declared by Congress.

One item of interest the museum has, is a reunion invitation that took place in 1902. It was for the first and present members of the Sixth Division of the Naval Reserve out of Santa Barbara California. Included in the invitation is the rooster for the original and the current members of the unit. We also have a photo of the original unit in 1898.
